計算モデリングの役割 2
前回, 計算モデリングの役割として評価というものを1つ見た. 今回も計算モデリングの役割を (Christiansen & Kirby, 2003) に基づいて2つ目を見てみたい. 2つ目は, Exploration（探索）である.
(2) Exploration. Computational simulations can be used (with caution) to explore the general ways in which explanatory mechanisms or theoretical constructs inter-act. In this mode, simulations can help direct us to new theories.

これはある意味で, モデリングの本質的な機能である. つまり, 現実には再現が難しかったり非常にコストがかかるものを容易に行い, 「もしこの条件であるならば」「もしこれらが組み合わさるならばどのように作用するか」といった使い方ができる.
これをここではExploration（探索）としている. これこそが, シミュレーションの一般的に想像できる最も有意義な使い方の1つであると言えよう.
