意味の2重性
生成文法においての併合という概念には, 主に2種類の併合があった. External Merge (外的併合) と Internal Merge (内的併合) である. この2つの分類は, 表現の解釈によるものであると考えられる. Chomsky (2020) を引用する.
If you look quite generally at the interpretation of expressions, it falls into two categories. There is one category which yields argument structure (theta roles and the interpretation of complements of functional elements). There is another category which is involved in displacement, which has kind of discourse-oriented or information-related properties or scopal properties and so on, but not argument properties.
