等位構造と崩壊

等位構造は, 生成文法において, 長年の議論の対象であった. その中でBode (2024)は等位構造におけるラベリングは, その集合をcollapseさせる効果を示すという興味深い主張を行っている. 具体例を見てみよう.

Regarding coordination, labeling will be shown to have the effect of collapsing the sets. Basically, this gives the impression of unstructured lists in the case of coordination.

a. They saw [[the boy] (and) [the girl]] DPs ‘collapsed’ into one DP = 1 DP

b. They gave [the man] [a book] direct & indirect object = 2 DPs

c. They consider (the man) [a genius] subject-predicate = 2 DPs

具体例を見てみるとわかるが, 等位構造を持つものは2つだったものが1つにまとめられているのに対して, 他の構造では2つのものが2つのまま保たれている.

これもまた, 等位構造の独特の振る舞いを示す例の1つであると考えられ, 非常に興味深いデータである.
