等位構造はどのような構造か

等位構造には, その構造独自の様々な性質が存在している. しかし, その独特さをうまくまとめているものは少ない. Bode (2024) はその中でも, 等位構造における観察事項を端的に整理してくれている.

• Coordination combines phrasal and possibly even smaller units of the same type located at the same level entering the same relations with the surrounding structure.
• There seems to be a requirement of parallelism unless the units receive an asymmetric interpretation.
• The assembling of units seems to be mediated by a conjunction (preceding the final conjunct in English).
• The iteration is unbounded in principle.
• Coordination has often been compared to adjunction.
• Coordination is a phenomenon observable in any particular language.

これを見ると, 等位構造は「基本的に同じ種類のものを結びつける」といった基本的な事項から, 「あらゆる個別言語において観察される現象である」といった包括的な見方までなされており, 非常に参考になる文献であると言えるだろう.
