言語の特殊性について

言語が人間にとって非常に重要な役割を果たしているのは言うまでもない.

さらに, 言語能力というのは, 暗黙のうちに皆が同様のレベルを必須の要素として持っていると考えているのかもしれない.

次の一節を見てみたい.

We can also be not musical at all, and not artistic at all, and we will not be considered as having a cognitive disorder. … Language, on the other hand, is a necessity of life, and it is not rare at all: It is everywhere where there are humans—all day, every day. This must be telling us something about our priorities … which are certainly relevant for the considerations of genetic selection.

我々は, 例えばある人が音楽的な能力を持っていようが持っていまいが, それを重要視することは通常はない. (もちろん, 職業上の理由など, さまざまなシチュエーションでそれを必須として求められるケースはあるかもしれないが)一方で, 言語は生活に不可欠であり, 毎日使われている要素である. Progovac (2021) はこの点を踏まえ, 進化的な優先順位を検討することの重要性を説いている.
