派生的概念

以前の投稿でもたびたび, ミニマリスト・プログラムとそれ以前の理論では大きな違いがあることはまとめていた. 今回はその中でも特に大きな違いとなるDerivational concept(派生的概念)を見てみたい.

The MP is distinguished from its predecessors by its ‘derivational concept’ which provides principles for how an analysis is constructed, rather than providing filtering conditions that constrain output representations (Chomsky 1991).

出力されたものを制約する条件ではなく, どのように構築されるかが重要になるというパラダイムシフトである. つまり, 大まかなイメージで言えば, できたものを検閲していくのではなく, 部品を組み上げていく過程そのものを対象に, 無駄がない構築を想定する. というふうに言い換えることができるかもしれない.
