言語とコミュニケーション
以前の投稿でもたびたび触れているが, 根本的な言語能力とコミュニケーション能力というのは, 生成文法では分けて考える.
そして, 世間一般で言う言語の進化というものは, 往々にしてコミュニケーション側の話である.
次の一節を見てみよう.
A look at the literature on evolution of language reveals that most of it scarcely even addresses the topic. Instead, it largely offers speculations about the evolution of communication, a very different matter. It is also often based on very strange beliefs about evolution, to some of which I will briefly return.

ここで述べられている通り, 世間一般に言う言語進化に関する文献のほとんどは, コミュニケーション能力の進化についての言説である. この違いを明確にしておかないと, 的確な議論や設計はできなくなってしまうであろう.
