デジタルで階層的に構造化された表現
ミニマリストプログラムの特徴は, その理論の大幅な簡素化であり, それによってシステムの複雑性は削減されてきたことに, 以前の投稿でも度々触れている.
その中で中心的な概念になってきたのはマージであるが, 今回はそのマージがあることにより, 我々人間言語はデジタルで階層的かつ構造化された表現が無限に生成されるという, 次の一節を見てみたい.
Provided with conceptual atoms of the lexicon, the operation Merge, iterated without bound, yields an infinity of digital, hierarchically structured expressions. If these expressions can be systematically interpreted at the interface with the conceptual system, this provides an internal “language of thought.”

興味深い点は, この表現が概念システムとのインターフェイスで解釈されうるならば, それによって内的な「思考の言語」が成立する, としている点である. ここでも重ね重ね「思考の言語」が強調されており, あくまで言語は外在的な目的よりも内在的な目的に最適化されていることがうかがえる.
