FoxP2と基盤の再利用.
以前の投稿で, FoxP2というものを見た.
今回, そのFoxP2に関しての, 次の一節を見てみたい.
There are a number of important take-home points regarding FoxP2. …It is broadly shared with other vertebrates, existing as a nearly exact homolog in most mammals as well as in birds, and belongs to a family that is even more widely shared among animals, indicating that novel functions (vocal learning) can build on ancient foundations.

FoxP2遺伝子が他の動物にも共有されていることは, 以前にもまとめた通りであるが, それはほぼ完全な相同遺伝子として存在しているらしい.
さらにそれは, 広く共有されている遺伝子群に属しているとのことである. このことから, Fitch (2011) は, 音声学習などの新しい機能が古い基盤の上で構築される可能性を指摘している.
進化生物学の世界では, 「進化のブリコラージュ」なる表現があるそうであるが, これもまたその一つと言えるであろう.
