言語と世界の関係性
人間の言語には様々な特性があるが, その中の一つは, 現実の世界と言語の意味というのは本質的に別物であるということであろう.
The abstract and algebraic character of natural language semantics has as such nothing to do with how language relates to the world, and hence it has nothing to do with reference or truth either.

Hinzen のこの一節はそのことを端的かつ具体的に表している. 自然言語におけるセマンティクスの抽象性・代数性という表現から, それ自体を現実世界のリファレンスやトゥルースに結びつけることや, それらの対応関係は不要であると論じている.
冒頭述べた「現実世界と言語の意味というのは本質的に別物である」というのは当然のことであるかもしれないが, このようにより具体的な単語を用いて記載されると, より解像度が上がる.
